2020 Trip Planning - Enchanted Circle

By: Kevin JohnsonDec 03, 2019

So another idea we’re kicking around for 2020 is riding down and around the Enchanted Circle in northern New Mexico.  We’ll then cut up to Durango, Glenwood Springs, and home.  It’ll be a little shorter likely, both in miles and days, but you never know – there is a good chance we could venture off and find some new spots off the mapped path.  It’s also likely we could spend an extra day or two in some of the places such as Durango and ride around there, taking in the sights.  This will be an amazing ride for a few reasons…I think the biggest being that I’ve never ridden the Million Dollar Highway.  I’ve been over the road a long time ago in a car but never on two wheels.  Also I think going down to the Enchanted Circle will be really cool since I’ve never been all the way around the loop.  I used to play hockey in Taos as a kid, but the only thing I can remember from way back then is how bad the ice was to skate on.

Another great piece of this trip will be Glenwood Springs.  I’ve you’ve not been and plan on going through I highly suggest checking out Doc Holliday’s Saloon.  It’s a fantastic little dive bar that I know I’ve mentioned before…it was the first stop on our Canada trip the very first day when we were heading to Grand Junction.  I know I talk about bars and breweries a lot, so getting away from that, the hot springs there are great too!  If you have kiddos with you I think the large pool is a good option, but if you’re on an adults only trip you should instead check out the Iron Mountain Hot Springs which are more intimate sized, outdoor hot tubs.  The temperatures and sizes are all different making it a pretty cool experience.

Who knows where the road will lead us, but wherever it does will be a new and exciting adventure.  Stay tuned for more plans for the new year; after all 2020 is right around the corner!
