Naming Your Motorcycle

By: Old AlJun 01, 2020

In all the bikes I’ve owned I have only named a few of them. I don’t know if anyone else does this or pretty much just me.

I bought a new 2000 Kawasaki in 1999 and always called it “Big Red”, maybe after Peg Bundy, I’m not sure.  Then there was “Stella”, a 1999 Harley Davidson Sportster sport model – that was a fun bike.  The 1999 Buell M2 – “Audrey”.  My current Harley I call “Belle” and my Yamaha Zuma 50cc scooter is the “Bullet”.  I have and Jeep and my 1970 Triumph T100c share the same name – “Kostenfalle” – money pits. My 1978 Harley FXE was the “Flying W’, the Harley XLCR was “Betty”, and last an the least liked was my 2002 BMW R1150GS – “The Beast” – although it should have been named “POS”.  That being said my 1982 BMW R100RS was a jewel.

Leave a note below in the newly provisioned comments area as I would love some feedback on this and past articles.

Until next time, think about if you name your bikes and what name(s) they’re given.

It’s pretty odd how I came into motorcycles as my father couldn’t stand them.  But as life moves on, things change. Now here I am, still riding. It’s been a long road, 55 years riding and 116 bikes later, and now writing a column for this site. What a long strange trip it’s been.
