Steamboat 2018 - "Back Home We Go"
Day 3 (8/12/18)
This last day was a pretty quick one, we all wanted to get home relatively early to get our lives back in order for the week to come. So we woke up, took care of the few things in the condo that needed to be done per the agreement, and got out of town. Instead of taking a longer path home we just decided to ride over Rabbit Ears Pass where we unfortunately got held up for fifteen minutes or so due to some road construction. Once we got through that mess and past all of the slow moving vehicles it was a breeze getting into Silverthorn. No matter the time of year, it’s always a beautiful trek between Silverthorn and Steamboat. We stopped quick for some gas in town before hitting the treacherous I70, where we’d again get held up in traffic going up to the Eisenhower (it’s actually Johnson on this side) Tunnel. Once we got through that it was no problem getting all the way home.
Somewhere near Idaho Springs I lost Al and Bob in the mix of other vehicles on the road, but it was no big deal since we all were going to our own houses and knew the paths there. It was a nice uneventful ride the rest of the way down and I got home quite early with plenty of time left in the day to take care of business at the house. Our second bike trip was complete and it was a kick ass time! I was glad to have Al along for this one, and I’m pretty sure he was happy to be with us kids, doing the thing we all love so much. Although it was a shorter trip I still learned a lot on this one just like the last: honing in my skills on gravel, figuring out the things to pack and how to pack them in the bags, and most importantly, not to forget my skivvies again! This was the last multi-day trip for 2018, but you better believe I’m looking forward for what’s to come next year!
