T-Minus 2 Days: ...and I'm still making trip changes
July 9, 2019 (2 days out)
Yep, you read that right…so last night I decided to make a semi minor change, to help balance out two of the days. So basically instead of riding to the south side of Salt Lake City (Lehi), we’ll be going slightly north of there to Ogden. Then the days become 350 and 400 miles, vs how they would have been at 310 and 454 via the routes I had mapped out. I’ll refrain from posting a new map until Thursday before we leave…because clearly anything can happen at this point, and based on a recommendation from a fellow advrider member, I am still considering breaking up the 518 miles from Eugene to Victoria and trying to add some of them to the 220 miles from Victoria to Squamish. That way we would be able to spend more time on the coast, not rush to the ferry, and make that route a little more enjoyable.
I do want to share a different map though…
…as I was perusing the internet this morning I came across a very…interesting map that opened my eyes a little bit to the potential sight seeing opportunities. Based on what I’m looking at and have heard in the past, we’re very much going to be in Bigfoot territory. Pretty much our entire path, sans coming home through Wyoming, includes sightings of the Bigfoot. Now some of you might be thinking that it’s all hokum, and very likely it is…but there is always some glimmer of possibility out there. Why don’t we take a look at the map…
You can see the sightings in accordance to the very roughly drawn overlay of the route we’re taking. I think it would be crazy not to even consider the possibility of potentially encountering this beast. I’ve lived in Colorado my entire life, 12 years of it in the mountains, and I’ve seen lots of wildlife…bears, mountain lions, deer, elk, coyotes, owls, foxes, skunks, rattle snakes, porcupines, eagles, etc. but not once have I come across a Bigfoot, but now I’m thinking to myself, this is the opportunity! Clearly while riding a motorcycle you need to have your wits about you and constantly scanning for potential road hazards, but now even more so than ever we’ll need to be watching for something bigger. Something furrier. Something…larger footed.
A few other notes I’d like to point out regarding this map, I was unaware there were so many sightings throughout the Appalachian Mountains and the surrounding areas including the east coast right down to the tip of Florida. I’d not heard anything about that area containing Sasquatches. BUT EVEN MORE INTERESTING is the claimed sighting off the northwest corner of Vancouver Island, out decently far into the Pacific Ocean…what’s the story there I wonder? Perhaps we’ll never know. Perhaps we don’t want to know. I think it’s best to just leave that one up to our imaginations, likely as the spotter of this particular Bigfoot did.
